Indonesia sees a surge in arrivals from the UK sees a surge in arrivals from the UK.jpg

The number of UK arrivals in Indonesia has risen by 28% year-on-year, making it the leading growth source market to the country.

The recent surge in those travelling to the region follows the introduction of the visa free policy for British nationals. An increase in flight capacity and the introduction of Garuada Indonesia’s non-stop direct flights to Jakarta from London Heathrow have also been factors for the increase in numbers.

Arrival figures in the country, which straddles the Equator between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, reached 27,437 in March, which means there has been growth of 40.58% compared to the same figures for 2015.

Following on from the impressive figures revealed in January and February, tourist numbers are set to continue their upward surge as a series of marketing campaigns are being carried out by Indonesia and other partners within the country.

The Republic of Indonesia is working closely with the Ministry of Tourism and the Embassy to promote the destination through a variety of campaigns, set to run throughout 2016.

The Ministry of Tourism has made attempts to continue to tap into the UK market by investing in branding campaigns, featuring “Wonderful Indonesia” on London taxi’s and LED screens.

Indonesia feels there is the potential for continued growth in the UK market, as the country continues to tick more of the boxes that travellers in the UK desire.

The Ministry’s policy to remove visa requirements for UK nationals has been incredibly well-received, as has the introduction of new flights to the destination, giving greater flexibility for those planning holidays.

The arrival statistics point towards the amount of work that Indonesia is doing to ensure that the country is an attractive option for those looking for holiday destinations, according to Richard Hume, country manager for Indonesia in the United Kingdom.
