Marriott expands Thai portfolio with new resort in Phuket

Marriot has launched a new upscale beach resort in Phuket to continue the expansion of its Thai portfolio.

The Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Nai Yang Beach, formally known as the Imperial Adamas Beach Resort, has been fully refurbished following a $64 million (c. £44m) investment.

Situated not far from Phuket International Airport, the new Marriott resort, located on Nai Yang Beach, has pool villas, suites and 180 rooms, as well as event space and a ballroom.

The resort’s facilities include two restaurants – the beachfront Big Fish Restaurant & Bar and the international Andaman Kitchen – plus a lagoon-style swimming pool, spa, 24-hour fitness centre and pirate-themed kids’ club.

A major agreement was made with Thailand’s TCC Land, which allowed for the rebranding of a range of properties, including seven hotels and resorts in Thailand.

An ever growing portfolio

The agreement was signed in 2013, and saw Marriott successfully open Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa – situated less than 200km from Bangkok – in March 2016.

Following the opening of the Phuket resort, Bangkok’s largest hotel – Imperial Queen’s Park – will be relaunched and rebranded as a Marriott later in 2016.

Thailand is the number-one holiday destination in Asia, and as it stands, Marriott now operates a total of 18 hotels in the country, including four in Phuket.

Phuket welcomes 12 million visitors per year, mostly tourists from European and Asian countries, resulting in it being one of the largest contributors to Thailand’s tourism industry.

According to David Ippersiel, General Manager of the Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Nai Yang Beach, the new refurbishment will address the needs of both local and international travellers.
