Andrew Cowan appointed Divisional Chief Executive of London Stansted Airport

Bristish AirwaysAndrew Cowan, currently Chief Strategy Officer of Manchester Airport Group (MAG) with overall responsibility for Manchester, East Midlands and Bournemouth Airports, has been announced as Divisional Chief Executive of London Stansted Airport.

Cowan will lead a team of more than 1,400 employees at the UK's fourth largest airport from the start of April.

New role

Before becoming Chief Strategy Officer at MAG, Cowan was Managing Director of Manchester Airport and prior to that he was Chief Executive of infrastructure, construction and services company Robertson Group.

In his new job, where he will be replacing Andrew Harrison, Cowan will be tasked with defining MAG's digital strategy and e-commerce business model, the "MAG-online" proposition which will enable the improvement of customer service and airport efficiency. It is also intended to expand MAG's profitable products and services portfolio further afield.

Fastest growing

London Stansted Airport is one of the UK's fastest growing airports and actually offers flights to more European destinations than any other airport in the country.

British Airways has recently announced plans to start flights from the airport following on from a programme of improvements to the terminal that has seen an investment of around £80 million over the past three years.

Charlie Cornish, Chief Executive Officer of MAG, said: "Since MAG acquired London Stansted, Andrew Harrison has done a fantastic job of driving growth at the airport and integrating it into the wider Group.

"Andrew Cowan is hugely experienced and I am confident that he will continue to build on the great foundations that exist at Stansted," he added.

Cornish went on to say that the airport has even more potential for growth and highlighted the need for improvements in rail links so that it can take the strain as other London airports reach capacity.
