EasyJet launches more flights from Scotland
The Scottish network of easyJet has been expanded with the launch of new services from Edinburgh flying to Venice and Vienna.
The budget carrier, so popular with Brits both north and south of the Scottish border, is actually Scotland's largest airline. The country has been a major market for easyJet since they first started flying between Luton and Glasgow 19 years ago.
The new year round service to Venice is expected to carry up to 50,000 passengers in its first 12 months. Flights will operate four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The new service to Vienna will also operate all year round and is expected to carry 21,000 passengers in the first year. This route will initially only fly on Tuesdays and Saturdays but will increase to three services a week in the summer.
Flights to Venice from other easyJet locations include London Gatwick, London Luton, London Southend, Manchester and Bristol. The carrier also already operates flights to Vienna from London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester and Bristol.
EasyJet's Head of Scotland Ali Gayward commented: “easyJet is Scotland's largest airline and now has an unrivalled network of over 50 routes served from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.
“We are pleased to further strengthen our network from Edinburgh with the addition of these services and are confident that Venice will prove a popular destination for travellers due to the assortment of contemporary hotels and restaurants, accompanied by the vibrant café scene and enchanting architecture.”
He went on to say that the airline expected their new Vienna route to be a popular addition to their existing network as it is a destination offering many historical and cultural attractions for visitors.
