Qatar Airways safety video features Messi and all-star Barcelona cast


Qatar Airways have taken an innovative approach to their in-flight safety video and it’s proving a huge hit on flights and on social media.

FC Barcelona players Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Gerard Pique, Ivan Rakitic and Javier Mascherano are the stars of the latest video that already has more than 40 million views – thought to be a record for an airline safety campaign.


Being described as a step-change from the more traditional in-flight safety presentation content that Qatar Airways and most other carriers usually employ, the sight of Barcelona's celebrated world class line-up of football stars has delighted and surprised travellers and viewers alike.

The airline's essential safety information is being put across in scenes which depicts Suarez going onto the field of play wearing an inflatable life vest.

All passengers on board every Qatar Airways flight are being shown the short film and along with

a growing community of fans online this means that tens of millions of people will see Messi and his pals in the unique safety video.

Signature creativity

Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, said: “We saw an opportunity to bring some of our signature creativity to something that had become just another part of the on-board experience.

“Safety is of course at the heart of our operations as a global airline and I am delighted that our successful partnership with FC Barcelona has been so warmly received in this way by our passengers and the online viewing public.”

In all, combining the total viewing time of the safety video as posted to YouTube means that fans have spent an amazing 39 years and 94 days watching the film so far.

Going Places Together

The mega star safety film is not the only success the popular airline is having with its innovative advertising and media profile.

Qatar Airways' new brand campaign called 'Going Places Together' is a television commercial which has a bold and inspiring message of travel as a transformative experience. Once again, it has proved to be a phenomenal success with millions of people as it quickly gained more than 30 million online views.
