Heritage Festival returns to The Channel Islands in 2016
The Channel Islands Heritage Festival returns this year after its success in 2015 and the timings and line-up have just been announced.
This year’s event – the second of its type – will be staged from 25 March through to 10 May, meaning that a full five weeks of family fun will be on offer to holidaymakers planning to visit Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark.
This year the theme for the entire run will be a maritime focus, which is well suited to all the natural and manmade attractions the Islands have to offer.
There will be plenty for both children and adults, from exploring significant coastal sites and learning about seafaring stories which are hundreds of years old, to experiencing the naval traditions of the historically important seafaring archipelago.
Nautical tours take in spectacular coastal castles, towers and lighthouses, and the wonderful landscapes mean fans of guided walks and cycle rides will never be at a loss for something new and exciting to discover.
There will also be vintage bus tours on offer throughout the weeks of the festival.
Some of the events highlights include a two-hour workshop that is a real Famous Five adventure on Guernsey. Fire & Forage for Families, which runs from 25th March to 10th May, includes fire starting, cooking outside and eating wild food.
The Island Explorers Treasure Hunt, also on Guernsey, offers adventurers of all ages a free to download map and a chance to follow a trail of clues across the island’s historic sites.
Meanwhile, Bunkers at Night is a series of evening tours on Jersey that take place on 31st March, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th April and 5th May, giving visitors the chance to find out about the island's WWII history in a new and exciting way.
Jersey will also play host to The Pallot Steam and Motor Museum Fayre on 9th May. Known as Liberation Day, it both commemorates and celebrates the end of the German forces' occupation in WWII.
