New Glasgow - Paris route to be launched by Air France

Paris route to be launched by Air France
Air France will operate a new daily service between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Glasgow from 27 March 2016, the airline has announced.

In a move that will see its links to Scotland strengthen, the French flag carrier will fly up to 131 passengers on an Airbus A318 offering Brits the chance to enjoy easy access to the airline's entire network from its Paris hub.

Boosting Scottish tourism and trade

According to Air France, the decision to launch services from Glasgow was made following the Scottish airport putting forward “a strong business case”. The French airline added that it wishes to become “a key intercontinental airline for Scotland” too.

Nearly 15 million people travel to Scotland each year for either business or pleasure. The new flights will offer more customers outside of the UK the chance to fly direct to one of Scotland's most thriving locations.

Chairman and CEO of Air France, Frédéric Gagey, explained: “These new flights from Paris will expand our offer to Scotland, a region with a strong appeal, both from an economic and a tourist point of view”.

Growth in demand

Air France's parent company KLM Royal Dutch Airlines already operates four daily services between Glasgow and the Amsterdam-Schiphol hub. The new flights in March will mean that the Air France-KLM Group will then fly from four different Scottish airports to either the French or Dutch capitals.

“The announcement of this new service from Air France is excellent news for Glasgow and for Scotland and further enhances the country's international connectivity,” said Derek Mackay, Scottish Transport Minister.

Connecting Scotland to the world

It is hoped that the Air France-KLM services will bring a huge boost to the Scottish economy allowing local businesses to have improved connections to major global markets.

“The airline's decision to introduce a daily summer service from Glasgow Airport will play a crucial role in encouraging export led-growth, attracting further inward investment and supporting Scotland's burgeoning tourism industry” added Amanda McMillan, Managing Director at Glasgow Airport.
