Brits choose holidays based on value for money

NorwayHoliday trends in the UK have been revealed by the independent holiday firm Sykes Cottages that found the majority of Brits took one UK-trip away every year.

The report also found that 34% of Brits take two holidays a year across the British Isles, while 22% take three and 20% book four or more.

Getting more bang for their buck

Meanwhile, the data also revealed that most people tend to book longer breaks – of five nights or more – well in advance.

The analysis found there was a general trend towards booking in advance for these trips, with the vast majority of participants saying they believed customers have become more inclined to book ahead over the past two years; largely because they feel they will get a better deal.

Miles Hill, Chief Executive of Sykes Cottages, said as families now have more disposable income, the industry expects to see more holidays being booked, more often, with short breaks taking place between main holiday periods.

Brits are also more comfortable booking and paying for their trips online and are as a result, using their mobile devices more often, he added.

Meanwhile, the report also found that 80% of holidaymakers expect to pay anything between £250 and £749 for their accommodation while away, suggesting that domestic travellers have a good idea of what they’re prepared to pay to get as much value as possible.

Favourite destinations in the UK

The report also looked at the most popular destinations visited in the UK, with Yorkshire topping the list – shortly followed by Cumbria, Cornwall, Devon and Northumberland.

When it came to the most favoured locations Brits want to visit in the future, Cornwall took the spotlight, followed by Devon.

However, what this report did notice was just how much we Brits love the countryside, in fact, being close to the great outdoors was the most favoured type of holiday for 53% of travellers.

The traditional seaside break also remained strong, with 31% of Brits ranking this type of holiday as their favourite.

Even if you’re staying in the UK, it’s important to ensure you have your budget travel insurance organised.
