Thomas Cook sees surge in bookings

SeaHolidaymakers have turned to Thomas Cook as the rain downpours across the country leave Brits desperate for some summer sunshine.

The tour operator has announced that a staggering 91% of its summer holidays have been booked – a figure which increases to 95% in Britain.

This huge update has come just a day after Tui Group – Europe’s largest travel firm – announced that their trading has remained successful throughout the year.

Terrible weather urges tourists

The demand for holidays across Northern Europe has dramatically increased during the second half of 2015, which has no doubt been encouraged by the poor weather in the likes of Scandinavia.

In fact, holidays in Northern Europe are now 99% booked, despite the average prices being 4% higher than in 2014.

Thomas Cook has also recorded a record number of tourists seeking out holidays in Greece and Egypt since the crisis in Tunisia.

Great progress for the firm

Peter Fankhauser, Chief Executive at Thomas cook, said the trading performance of the business for the entire summer season has “progressed well”.

39% of winter 2015/16 holiday destinations have already been sold and next year is also looking “encouraging”, he added.

The firm has also revealed that bookings are well ahead of the previous year in all major markets, with prices pushing even higher, meaning 2015 is set to be a successful year for the tour operator.

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Thomas Cook has had a somewhat troubled year, with plenty of headlines in the media placing them at the forefront of our minds. However, with results like this, there seems to be no stopping the well-known holiday provider.

Are you thinking of getting away from the English rain this year and enjoying a bit of winter sun? Be sure to remember to book your multi trip travel insurance.
