New UK regional airline revealed

AirlineBritish travellers have plenty to celebrate now that British Midland Regional (Bmi) and Loganair are joining forces to create a brand new UK regional airline.

Operating under the new name Airline Investments Limited (AIL) it will be run and coordinated by Peter Simpson, Group Chief Executive and British Airways (BA) Managing Director at Gatwick Airport.

Something for British holidaymakers to enjoy

Mr Simpson has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the travel field as the former Managing Director of BA CityFlyer.

The new AIL has an impressive fleet of 46 aircrafts, which has the potential to carry 1.5 million holidaymakers every year and is set to welcome a turnover of £200 million.

AIL also employs 960 members of staff and flies 47 different routes in 10 countries across Europe; from Sumburgh in the Shetland Isles to French Toulouse. This means many British holidaymakers can take advantage of the fantastic travel offering.

Stephen and Peter Bond, the investors in the new airline, have a deep rooted history in aviation, after previously owning Bond Aviating in the UK with the investors of Australia’s Alliance Airlines.

Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the airline

Bmi Regional was originally known as Business Air before being acquired by the British Midland Group back in 1997 for £8 million.

The new regional airline operates 14 Embraer 145 planes with 49 seats and four Embraer 135 aircrafts with 37 seats across a huge network of 22 destinations in 10 European countries.

Glasgow-based firm Loganair currently operates as a franchise partner of Flybe, serving passengers from the Highland and Islands of Scotland and linking with airports in Bradford, Manchester, Stansted and Norwich.

With these two lines teaming up, British holidaymakers will be spoilt for choice when choosing local, domestic airline.
