Edinburgh residents named most adventurous Brits while abroad

Snow Holidaymakers from Edinburgh have been named the Bravehearts of Britain and deemed the most adventurous Brits while on holiday.

This is according to a recent survey of 1,000 British holidaymakers by holiday tour company Inghams.

Adrenalin junkies head north

For southern adrenalin junkies, it’s recommended you head to the north of England as the survey found those living in Edinburgh are the biggest thrill-seekers while on holiday, enjoying extreme sports such as skiing and snowboarding.

At the other end of the scale, those living in Dublin were found to b the least likely to try out anything that got the heart pumping; with just 27% of the Southern Irish getting involved in extreme activities compared to 78% of Edinburgh residents.

Those who lived in the Welsh city of Cardiff were a little closer to their Scottish neighbours and took second spot on the list of the most adventurous Brits.

Pensioners getting involved

However, it wasn’t just twenty-somethings enjoying action-packed hols, pensioners also took part.

The research revealed that pensioners were the most willing to get involved in extreme sports with over-65s more willing than 18-24 year olds to try snowboarding. In fact as much as 50% of older travellers said they would take part.

29% of pensioners also said they would give bungee jumping a go, while 21% were eager to try their hand at skiing.

Snowboarding and rock climbing were also popular choices.

The UK’s most adventurous cities were ranked as follows:

  1. Edinburgh
  2. Cardiff
  3. Birmingham
  4. Bristol
  5. Nottingham
  6. London
  7. Norwich
  8. Liverpool
  9. Manchester
  10. Dublin

If you’re thinking of taking part in extreme sports while on holiday this year, be sure to organise budget travel insurance in advance
