Forgetful British holidaymakers lose £390 per year

Careless BritsMore than three quarters of Brits lose a valuable item while on holiday abroad, according to a new survey conducted by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk.

The research highlighted that careless Brits are throwing away more than £390 per year due to their carefree habits with two thirds of tourists losing an item worth more than £50 during their travels.

Gadgets get left behind

As a sign of modern times, gadgets and electronics were undeniably the most common items to be lost whilst abroad.

More than half of travellers (52%) went home without their smartphone while a further 47% left behind laptops or tablets.

Jewellery was another commonly forgotten item, according to 39% of respondents, with watches also making the list after just shy of one quarter (24%) accidentally left them behind.

Many travellers also travelled home without their favourite tunes after 32% forgot their iPod and MP3 players.

Putting valuables at risk

Perhaps even more worryingly, the survey also found that the majority of holidaying Brits go abroad without any insurance on their valuable belongings, making them extremely vulnerable while away.

Just 32% of holidaymakers take out insurance on their valuables with those who have previously lost an uninsured item whilst abroad more likely to invest in a policy in the future.

While this can prevent future mishaps, it doesn’t provide immediate relief for any lost possessions and many travellers confessed they didn’t replace the items they lost on holiday due to lack of funds.

VoucherCodesPro.co.uk advises those choosing to go abroad this year to check their home and travel insurance covers valuable items and gadgets left at home or taken abroad.

They also advise all travellers to take basic precautions whilst away to prevent the loss or theft of their personal items. This includes keeping all valuables in zipped pockets and bags, using safes in hotels where possible and never leaving personal items unattended or out of sight.

If you’re one of the forgetful Brits planning a holiday this year then make sure you arrange family travel insurance to protect your valuables from loss, theft or damage.
