Glaswegians enjoy direct flights to Milan

Direct flightTravellers departing on holiday from Glasgow Airport will be able to benefit from a new connection at the end of the year as the airport gets direct flights to Milan.

As the first-ever direct flights to be offered to the Italian fashion capital by flight operator easyJet, the new route is expected to drastically improve travel connections from the airport.

Characteristic low-cost fares will also be on offer to tempt travellers with prices expected to start at as little as £25.49 for a one-way trip to the newly added destination.

Strengthening the travel network

Speaking about the new route, Head of Scotland at easyJet – Ali Gayward – said that he hoped it would prove popular with passengers and “further strengthen [easyJet’s] network”.

This was a sentiment shared by Francois Bourienne, Glasgow Airport’s Commercial Director, who described the two cities being linked in the new route as “economic powerhouses”.

He added that the direct service “will undoubtedly prove extremely popular” with holidaymakers and thus increase the number of passengers passing through the airport.

“Not only will it provide Scotland passengers with the opportunity to visit one of Europe’s top city break destinations, it has huge potential to generate significant in-bound tourism for Glasgow and the West of Scotland,” he concluded.

A hit with holidaymakers

As Milan is a world-renowned destination boasting many benefits, both easyJet and Glasgow Airport expect the new route to be a hit with holidaymakers.

The service will officially launch on 2nd December 2015 and operate throughout the year with connections occurring twice a week.

Flights will be scheduled for Wednesdays and Saturdays with as many as 26,000 passengers expected to be carried via the service each year.

easyJet and Glasgow Airport’s decision to open this route is not the only example of travel connections expanding in the Scottish city though.

Recently, the pair also announced a new summer service that would connect travellers with France’s famous wine region Bordeaux on a twice-weekly schedule.

The airline also has existing travel routes to Milan, its main European base, from Scotland’s capital Edinburgh.
