More over 55s are travelling abroad

Derby has seen a boom in the number of over 55s travelling abroad, according to research by Co-Operative Travel, based in Intu Derby Shopping Centre.

It means they are taking full advantage of the recent pension changes and are choosing to put their lifetime savings into seeing the world.

A 26% rise in the number of holidays booked abroad by those aged 55 was reported since pension rules were altered that allowed people to cash in their entire pension fund in one go.

In the first month since April 6 – when the new rules came into action – the branch in Derby saw more enquiries and bookings than ever before from this age group.

Those aged between 65-69 were found to be the most eager travellers to book a “trip of a lifetime” according to the new research, with European trips being the most popular to be booked.

Booking a dream holiday

Adam Deane, Derby Brand Manager, said that Greece and Spain were the top two destinations to appeal to the older travellers.

He added that there was also found to be a 54% increase in the number of older explorers booking holiday trips to the USA.

Deane said that it has “been wonderful to help so many people enjoy their savings, particularly globe-trotting grandparents” who now have the cash to book their “dream holiday” for the very first time to exotic locations around the world.

The new pension rules have seen the number of over 55s booking holidays increase across the country due to the additional money they now have available.

Are you thinking of using your newly available pension cash to fund your next dream holiday? It is important to remember to book cheap travel insurance in advance for maximum security.
