Manchester airport reaches record twelve months

Manchester AirportNearly 30,000 more travellers made their way through the doors of Manchester Airport during April 2015, than in the same month a year previously.

These additional passengers brought Manchester Airport’s total amount of travellers to 1.7 million in April.

Increasing flights and passengers

The annual total number of passengers using the airport now stands at a record 22.3 million, an increase of 6.7% year on year.

This huge growth in the number of passengers travelling via Manchester Airport has been explained by the Easter holiday and the increase in the number of long haul flights taking off from the city.

April also witnessed Virgin Atlantic take over Delta Air Lines Atlanta Service, adding a larger aircraft to the route that has the ability to cater for more passengers.

Thomas Cook Airlines have also begun introducing new direct services to the cities of New York and Miami while flights to Boston and Los Angeles are set to take place in 2016.

Look ahead to a busier schedule

Ken O’Toole, Manchester Airport’s Managing Director, commented that the airport’s growth is set to continue as the airport looks ahead to a “busy summer schedule”.

He added that the airport will be adding additional routes and frequencies to its current offering in the coming months, in order to ensure that all 22 million travellers who currently live within a two hour drive of the airport have a “greater choice than ever before”.

O’Toole noted that with the two full length runways, this airport is and will continue to provide the available capacity needed to meet the demands of both airlines and passengers.

The recent elimination of Airport Passenger Duty for children under the age of 12 also means that family summer holidays are a great deal more affordable, he concluded.

If you’re planning on a trip abroad this year, it is important to remember to book family travel insurance in advance.
