Spain named as most tourist friendly country

SpainSpain is the most tourist friendly country in the world, according to the World Economic Forum’s travel competitiveness report.

Spain has climbed up a number of places since the report was last conducted in 2013 – when they were in fourth place and Switzerland topped the leader board.

Europe topped the list

Spain topped the list when it came to cultural resources and ranked in fourth place for entertainment, infrastructure and supporting tourist’s online searches, according to the report.

Unlike 2013, this year Switzerland ranked in sixth position, behind the likes of France, Germany, USA and UK; spearing Europe’s success.

As part of the report, 141 different countries were assessed on 14 different categories including business environment, health and safety.

Of those countries, Chad, Guinea and Angola occupied the bottom three spots.

He report attributed Europe’s success to “world-class tourism service infrastructure, excellent health and hygiene conditions”.

Both Japan and Australia made it into the top ten, with Singapore in 11th position and New Zealand found themselves at position 16.

Central American countries placed lower on the list, with Brazil ranking 28th and Mexico in 30th position.

Roberto Crotti, the Economist at the World Economic Forum, commented that the diversity at the top of the list demonstrates that a country does not need to be wealthy to be “flourishing in the tourism sector”.

However, he added that many countries should be doing more in order to tackle the challenges posed by travel and tourism.

Crotti argued that by tackling the infrastructure and safety issues, countries could further enhance economic success and create new jobs.
