Brits take off to Canary Islands for Easter break

Canary IslandsOne third of British travellers are set to arrive in the Canaries this Easter to take advantage of the great currency rates in the Eurozone.

According to holiday ownership company Diamond Resorts International, Canaries resorts are witnessing a 10% year-on-year increase during the Easter period as guaranteed tans and year-round sunshine prove too tempting for Brits to resist.

Easter at home or abroad

Celebrating Easter abroad has become more popular over recent years and favourable exchange rates currently in place across Europe are only contributing to that.

When converting the pound to the euro, Brits are set to enjoy an additional £10 for every £100 worth of spending money and with a pint costing around €2 it’s no surprise Diamond Resorts International is seeing a huge surge in bookings.

The holiday company noted the Sunset Bay Club in Tenerife was Brits’ favourite Canaries resort but also revealed that not all Brits are choosing to spend their Easter overseas.

A staggering 41% are opting for a “staycation” instead; embracing early spring weather in the UK.

These home-loving holidaymakers have also contributed to Britain’s reputation as a family-friendly destination and made it the number one place to celebrate the religious holiday worldwide.

Happier and healthier holidaymakers

President and CEO of Diamond Resorts International, David Palmer, explained that this research proved that holidays have a number of positive health benefits for Brits.

“Our research found that people who commit to taking holidays on a regular basis are generally happier, healthier and have better relationships than those who don't,” he said. He also said that it was “encouraging” to see so many Brits “recognising how important it is to take a holiday” and getting some much needed R&R whether at home in the UK or abroad.

If you’re thinking of going abroad this Easter holiday, budget travel insurance should arranged in advance regardless of whether you’re holidaying in the UK, the Canary Islands or elsewhere
