Children travel free on Heathrow Express this Easter

Family Check inChildren under the age of 16 years will be able to travel for free on the Heathrow Express from March 27 and just in time for the Easter holidays the airport rail service has announced.

This provides plenty of money-saving opportunities for families looking to get away during the school holidays and makes travelling to Heathrow far more affordable.

To qualify for free travel, eligible children must be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian on their journey.

Increasing the number of travellers

This new initiative comes after several stints of the “kids for free” offer from the travel service and is part of the company’s proposal to increase the total number of leisure travellers using their 15 minute service during school holidays.

In addition to offering free travel for kids, the service is also slashing the price of single standard tickets over the Easter weekend – April 03 to April 06.

Single ticket prices will be cut from £21.50 to just £10 while return tickets will also be reduced from £35 to £31.50. Return tickets are valid for travel after the four day period.

Director of Heathrow Express, Fraser Brown, commented that whilst many travel organisations tend to charge adults with children more during school holidays they “are doing the opposite”.

Two thirds of Heathrow Express’ current customers are businesses travellers but the company wants to diversify their demographic and attract more leisure seekers and families.

“Allowing children to travel free at all times from now on is a key part of doing this”, Brown said.

Welcoming families from overseas

Brown went on to comment that the new initiative is also an attempt to encourage more families from overseas to visit Britain.

Gordon Innes the Chief Executive of London & Partners – the promotional organisation for London –commented that this is fantastic news for the most visited city in the world.

He said Heathrow Express’ plans will ensure the capital “is even more affordable for families travelling with children” – something which will boost visitor numbers and tourist revenue.

If you’re thinking of travelling abroad, it is important to ensure that you have European travel insurance arranged in advance
