Revealed: The apps that will appeal to travellers

Travel AppsWith the brand new Apple Watch set to go on sale on 28 April, travel booking companies and airlines are developing apps aimed at making travel much easier.

Holidaymakers are set to benefit from many features offered by the new Apple Watch, including wearing their boarding pass on their wrists as they board the plane.

This new accessory is set to ensure that fewer travellers will miss their flights or experience a mad dash through the airport to get to their correct terminal, providing them with a “gentle tap” on the wrist as a reminder.

Airline apps

EasyJet is just one airline that is set to develop a new app for the Apple Watch and believes the Passbook boarding passes will be simple to access for everyone at the airport.

The watch is also set to have a “glances” feature which will allow EasyJet’s app to provide a personalised countdown to boarding for individual travellers. This will also provide all information needed pre-departure along with up to date currency exchange rates.

The new app will also allow travellers to remain social; permitting them to send Facebook updates and tweets throughout their time at the airport.

American airlines have also begun developing their own app which will include information regarding baggage claim and connection details for all passengers wearing an Apple Watch.

Hotel chain apps

It’s not just airlines which are making the most of this new technology though as hotel chains are also getting in on the game.

Hoteliers Starwood are set to develop their own app which will display the owner’s room key so that guests will only have to swipe their wrists in front of their door to gain entry rather than using a card.

Meanwhile TripAdvisor is creating an app which will recommend the best restaurants and cafes in the local area depending on the star ratings it has received from users.

If you’re thinking of travelling abroad with the Apple Watch or other gadgets, it’s important to get adventure travel insurance organised well in advance.
