A fortnight in sunny Spain - survey reveals how the average Brit will spend their break abroad in 2015

Child BeachThe charms of the Mediterranean aren't lost on holidaying Brits which is why many return to the sun-kissed shores of the continent time and time again.

New research has now revealed that the heady combination of sun, sea and sangria is set to prove to be a winning formula for Brits abroad in 2015, with the average Brit set to spend their annual breaks in sunny Spain.

Questioning more than 2,000 people, the survey conducted by Monarch Airlines revealed that an out of season spell in Spain - complete with a generous travel budget and hotel stay is set to describe how many UK travellers will be spending their hard earned annual leave in 2015.

Further figures from the research go on to support the idea that Spain is the destination of choice for holidaying Brits this year, with more than half of the breaks (58.3%) for 2015 booked for the land of tapas, idyllic isles and welcoming locals.

This figure is more than three times (17%) the amount of bookings made for second place ranker, Greece.

Commenting on the figures, Ian Chambers, Head of Retail and Online at Monarch Airlines said:

“This research into 2015's holiday plans show that our customers will be enjoying some seriously relaxing breaks this year.

“Spain's popularity amongst those looking for sun, sea and sangria is as strong as ever, and with Greece being the second most popular destination for 2015 it's no wonder that our new Greek routes are in high demand.”

Continuing Spain and Greece's lead are the following destinations - all of which are set to prove to be a hit with Brits this year:

3. Portugal – 16.1%

4. Americas – 13.8%

5.  Italy – 12.5%

6. Turkey – 12.2%

7. Cyprus – 11.7%

8. France – 9.1%

9. Egypt – 6.4%

10. Croatia – 5.3%
