Wizz Air announces new routes from Gdansk base

Wizz Air has announced that it will be operating a number of new routes from its Gdansk base this summer. Starting from June 19th flights will operate from Gdansk to Aberdeen, Brussels Charleroi and Billund in Denmark.

Airport TravellersThe airline has also announced that it will be increasing frequencies on existing routes operating from Gdansk from June 20th. This is to and from the following routes: Oslo Torp, Stockholm Skavsta, Bergen, Stavanger, Milan and Liverpool.

In all, the airline now operates 30 routes from Gdansk and had also revealed that it will be basing its 6th Airbus A320 at Gdansk.

Routes to Aberdeen, Brussels Charleroi and Billund will operate Monday to Friday with one way fares - including taxes and one small cabin bag - on these routes ranging from 39 to 159 Polish Zloty. All flights on new routes are currently on sale at wizzair.com.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, said:

“We are deeply rooted in Gdansk. Wizz Air - as the largest airline here - has been instrumental in developing the aviation market and infrastructure in Northern Poland over the past decade. Deploying a sixth based aircraft and creating more local jobs are further milestones of our continuous commitment to the region.”

Wizz Air has recently announced that it has seen a 17% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers between 2013 to 2014, to reach 15.8 million passengers.

Commenting on the figures, Váradi said:

“2014 was another great year for Wizz Air marked by a network of more countries and destinations on more routes than ever before. We carried 2.3 million more passengers than a year ago.”

Váradi also revealed that the airline has plans to extend its network further in 2015, with the aim of bringing even more low cost flights to travellers in Central and Eastern Europe.

If you are heading off for a stay on the continent, it is important to organise European travel insurance in advance.
