Holiday planning - we're not stressed about it, say more than half of Brits

Booking HolidaySorting out the finer points of a holiday - from a hotel within a stone's throw of the beach to finding a flight that won't break the budget - can often induce a feeling of panic for even the most seasoned of travellers.

However, new research from travel site orbitz.com has revealed that holiday planning may be as relaxing as the main event itself, with more than half (58%) of travellers revealing that preparing for their holiday didn't faze them one bit.

Further figures from the survey revealed that travellers employ a number of ingenious strategies to ensure that they maintain a feeling of zen as they embark on the holiday booking process. This includes those below:

  • Reading customer reviews before booking their hotel or holiday packages (52%)
  • Booking tickets for travel and holiday activities in advance of their trip (50%)
  • Organising a trip schedule before they reach their destination of choice (46%)

Travellers also revealed that they know a thing or two about the perfect formula for a stress-free holiday experience once they land in their holiday destination, taking the following measures to ensure that they get some much needed rest and relaxation. These were as follows:

  • Staying in a hotel for at least part of their holiday (44%)
  • Carving out some alone time on their trip (44%)
  • Scheduling lots of activities and events for all, or part, of their holiday (39%)

Research released at the end of last year by Skyscanner also shed some light into why Brits aren't worked up by the idea of planning their holidays. It showed that Brits book flights whenever they have free time, rather than eating into their busy daily schedules. The top five most popular times to book flights were as follows:

  1. On a mobile or tablet at work - 20%
  2. In the pub – 12%
  3. Out for dinner  - 10%
  4. Whilst at the in-laws  - 8%
  5.  On a train – 7%

Take the stress out of sorting out your travel insurance by booking it in advance of your trip.
