Want a wallet-friendly NYE? Then head to Prague

New Year's Eve celebrations do not need to cost the earth to equal fun times aplenty, as long as good friends and a tipple or two is added into the mix.

But rather than staying in for a night of Jules Holland and a half-price bottle of champers, new research has revealed that you can do New Year's Eve for less without compromising on the bells and whistles.New Year Celebrations

Figures from Travelex show that seeing in the New Year in Prague would set you back just £42.90 based on the average cost of a pint of beer, a bottle of champagne, an evening meal and admission to fireworks displays.

A trip to Budapest for December 31st will also leave travellers with change from £100, with the same items coming in at a grand total of £66.81.

David Swann from Travelex said:

“The pound is providing good value for Brits who want to enjoy a New Year overseas.

Despite Brits being put-out by the price of celebrating in the UK, it’s great to see from our research that the price of key items such as beer and champagne are cheaper overseas,” he noted.

Further figures from the research show that just under a quarter (24%) of Brits would be happy to spend New Year's Eve in a foreign city - with the Big Apple still within reach for those who want to head further afield. The total cost of the above items in New York is £118.60 - good news for the 30% of Brits who want to welcome 2015 in the city.

The top five was completed by Paris (£244.90) and Toronto (£276.12).

Figures from the research also showed that men are more likely to let loose with their holiday cash for New Year's Eve celebrations, spending an average of 18% more than women. This figure stands at £200 against £169 for women.
