Easyjet launches first direct service between Belfast and Reykjavik

Low-cost airline Easyjet has announced that it has launched the first direct service between Belfast and Reykjavik, bringing the airline's total of direct flights to the city to seven.

The twice weekly service will depart on Mondays and Fridays, with fares starting from £31.99 each way per person.Airplace Travel

It's expected that more than 30,000 passengers will take advantage of the service - which will operate on a 156 seater Airbus A319 - in its first year.

Ali Gayward, EasyJet’s Head of Ireland, said:

“We are really excited to have launched Ireland’s first direct connection from Belfast International Airport to Reykjavik today.  This new year round service will bring the number of EasyJet flights to Iceland up to 26 a week and we will carry in excess of 200,000 passengers per year to and from Reykjavik across all of these flights. Over 30,000 of these are expected to originate from Belfast.”

Over the last two years tourism to Iceland has leapt by 40%, an increase that may in part be due to the fact that there is a greater availability of flights to the country. Explaining Reykjavik's appeal in greater detail, Easyjet says:

“Reykjavik, Iceland's beautiful capital city is the perfect destination for adventurers looking for a completely unique city break. Surrounded by majestic waterfalls, glaciers and volcanoes, the city itself is steeped in history and culture, while the nearby beaches offer amazing experiences for the whole family.”

The airline has also recently announced that it will be launching 20 new routes next summer, including those below - with all prices based on two people travelling in the same booking.

London Luton to Split, from £38.99 one-way Manchester to Split, from £32.99 one-way Manchester to Kefalonia, from £34.99 one-way Isle of Man to Bristol, from £25.99 one way London Southend to Menorca, from £30.99 one way

If you are heading off on an overseas holiday in the coming months, it is important to organise multi-trip travel insurance in advance.
