Sark named among 20 ‘go-now’ destinations around the world for 2015

TravellingWhen planning a trip to get away from it all, Brits can forget to look close to home for their source of holiday inspiration.

Now, the latest ranking from National Geographic Traveller may encourage UK travellers to do just this, placing the Channel Island of Sark among its top 20 ‘go now’ destinations around the world.

Travel expert Peter Johansen extols the charms of the laid back island, encouraging visitors to; ‘wander country roads bordered by fieldstone walls and storybook cottages, past foxgloves and bluebells and 600 other kinds of wildflowers, taking note of butterflies, seabirds, Guernsey cows’.

On Sark’s impressive feat Sandra Williams, Chairman of Sark’s Tourism Committee said:

“This is a wonderfulendorsement for Sark.

“A lot of our visitors come back year after year but coverage like this brings Sark to the attention of potential new travellers from all around the world.

“It also reminds those of us who live here just what a unique and precious place Sark is.”

Other destinations featured in the list, include the lesser known Haida Gwaii, a 180-mile-long archipelago off the coast of British Columbia; Choquequirao, Peru and the village of Zermatt in Switzerland.

Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel ranking for 2015 also recently revealed more fodder for our travel imaginations as the New Year approaches.

Here, Singapore took the crown for the best destination to set our holiday sights on in 2015, with the following glowing description of the country:

‘Since sealing its independence in 1965, Singapore has been on a roll. And while its grand heritage buildings, chaotic hawker centres, luxurious green spaces and glitzy shopping malls have been luring travellers for decades, a slew of new developments has elevated the ‘Singapore experience’ to a whole new level.’

4. Nicaragua

5. Ireland
