Poshtels, wearable tech and more - travel trends for 2015 revealed

What a difference a New Year brings - that's what travellers across the globe are likely to say once they step into the future of travel circa 2015.

HotelsAccording to forecasts made in the World Travel Market and Euromonitor International report travellers' holiday experiences are set to go up a notch or two next year as hotels make way for their posher cousins - poshtels - and wearable devices such as Google Glass to transform the way we book and plan holidays.

World Travel Market senior director Simon Press said:

"Poshtels are more than a buzzword. They represent a viable accommodation option for a number of traveller segments and are helping to raise standards across the entire UK hospitality sector."

Those travellers looking for a welcome twist on the standard tourist experience will also welcome the news that peer to peer dining experiences are on the horizon for 2015. These see start ups at the helm of holiday dining options offering cooking lessons, visitors in-home meals and more.

Explaining the concept further Press said:

"When travelling and on holiday we all like to think that our experience is authentic to the destination. How much more real can you get than by eating local food cooked by a local in their own home, or being taken to a restaurant which isn't featured in the guide books?"

Sites such as Eatwith have turned this concept into reality ahead of time and after starting in Spain and Israel the site has gone on to expand its offering in less than 12 months.

Other trends revealed by the report include the following:

  • The rise of cycling breaks among a generation of travellers whose normal inclinations veer towards golfing holidays.
  • Hotel chains encouraging 'braggies' - those who take photos of their hotel to share on social media - with reward schemes.
  • Africa is set to become the world's surfing capital.

If you are planning a holiday to remember in 2014 and beyond, it is important to organise travel insurance in advance.
