Lorraine Pascale develops new menu for Virgin Atlantic – but not everyone will get a chance to sample it

In-flight meals have come a long way over the decades, with many travellers getting the chance to sample carefully prepared dishes that cater to their every dietary whim.

With top airport eateries also offering gourmet packed lunch boxes to see holidaymakers through their flights, plane food has become synonymous with good eating.

Now Lorraine Pascale is the latest TV chef to try her hand at revamping in-flight meals, whipping up a new menu for Virgin Atlantic flights.

The host of cookery shows such as Baking Made Easy and My Kitchen Rules has spent the past six months working alongside the airline’s catering department, casting her culinary eye over the airline’s range of in-flight meals and offering ideas for some tasty additions.

The new menu – which will only be offered to those in upper class - will include a host of mouth-watering dishes including Thai beef salad with roasted pine nuts and chilli dressing, or a warm salmon and lentils with chorizo dish with asparagus and balsamic dressing.

Children in upper class will also be able to get their teeth into the new menu offerings, with the chance to load up their forks when presented with dishes including 'marvellous' mac'n'cheese with pancetta pieces and crispy tender chicken strips with potato wedges and crushed peas.

The menu will make its debut on Virgin's B787-9 flight to Atlanta on October 23, before being added to services departing from the UK on October 28.

Lorraine Pascale says: “I have really enjoyed working with the team at Virgin on these dishes, which I very much hope customers will enjoy. The aim was to create healthy and sophisticated menus for the Upper Class customers and wholesome, delicious and fun meals for the children's offering.

“I think we've achieved it – bon appetit!”
