Long-haul glamour 101: Emirates staff reveal their beauty secrets

When travelling long haul, our everyday grooming routine is often put on the back burner. Our in-flight look is often as natural as possible – after all who wants to be grappling with eye make-up remover in the cramped confines of an onboard toilet?

However, while everyday travellers can let their beauty regimes slip for the duration of a long-haul flight, there is seemingly no let-up for the perfectly preened cabin crew.

And to ensure that airline cabin crew never descend from ‘fab’ to drab while on a long-haul shift, Emirates staff have joined forces to offer their top tips on hydrating parched skin, concealing eye bags and more.

The beauty pearls of wisdom offered up by Emirates cabin crew include saying no to processed snacks such as crisps and pretzels and saying yes to water packed fruit, vegetables and coconut water.

Explaining further, the airline’s cabin crew say:

‘Dehydration will affect the skin in general, especially the hands, face and cuticles during long haul flights. To combat this, drink lots of water throughout the flight and hydrate as much as possible in the days prior to flying by drinking abundant amounts of water, fruit and vegetable juices (especially cucumber).’

And to help cabin crew maintain a refreshed look even when they have endured the rigours of a long-haul flight, Training Manager Helen Roxburgh, responsible for Image and Uniform, revealed that lotions and potions hold the key at 30,000 feet.

“It’s recommended that cabin crew follow a skincare routine that helps them deal with the different hours that they work,” she stated.

“Exfoliation and masks are highly recommended as they help to enhance the appearance of the skin.

“They have to touch up their make-up throughout the flight. Eye gel helps to refresh the eyes during a long flight and can be used over make-up.”

If you are heading on a long-haul flight in the coming weeks and months, it is important to organise worldwide travel insurance in advance.
