Families can now head to the continent for a third less!

Families, who are planning to sample the delights of a European beach break in the coming weeks, will be glad to know that they can get more bang for their buck in summer 2014. This is according to the latest figures from Post Office survey which found that those heading for a seaside stay in one of the continent’s many gems, can expect to pay around a third less for the privilege.

Examining the cost of 15 typical items of holiday spending in 13 popular European resorts, the survey found that three-quarters of beach resorts in Europe had seen costs fall since last summer.

Brits looking to make their travel budget go further may want to make a beeline for the Croatian resort of Porec, where the total cost of the items included as part of the survey are almost half what they were in 2013 (down to £105.25).

Commenting on the survey findings, Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money said: "Paying for meals is likely to have the biggest impact on the family budget. Price variations in popular destinations are much greater than you might expect so those who have still to book would be well advised to do some homework to find out where feeding the family will cost least."

The survey also revealed that not all prices were on a downward trend. While Nice emerged as the most expensive destination (£147.63) figures also showed that prices had leapt by 26% in the Spanish island of Majorca.
