Brits love R & R on holidays while Brazilians love to party

When it comes to what we want out of our holidays tastes can differ from person to person and from country to country. While some love the thought of laying on the beach with the waves getting lapping at their feet, for others the idea of a holiday wouldn’t be complete without a few high-energy activities thrown into the mix.

The gulf between what constitutes an ideal beach holiday for some, and not for others, has been revealed by Expedia.co.uk's annual Flip Flop Report. The global survey revealed that while the majority of Brits (92%) head out in search of a laid back destination to get some much needed rest and relaxation, the majority of Brazilians (87%) would look for a beach destination where they could party until the sun comes down.

Other nations also revealed that that they were more likely to be doers that loungers while on a beach break. While 34% of Mexicans, 29% of Malaysians and 27% of Austrians would take part in swimming, surfing and water sports and beach sports, this stood at just 19% for Brits.

Commenting on the figures, Expedia.co.uk Managing Director Andy Washington, said: “The results from Expedia's Annual Flip Flop Report showcase how different we all are when it comes to the type of beach holiday we most enjoy – what is universal is how important they are for us all, with 84% associating their overall happiness with taking one.”

Brits would go the extra mile for a beach holiday The survey also revealed that above all, Brits are a big fan of beach breaks and are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that they get off on their dream beach getaway. This includes the following: One in four would be prepared to give up their daily coffee or tea for a whole month, 20% would work weekends for a month, 14% would even be prepared to sacrifice their health and have the flu for 48 hours in exchange.
