BA’s short-haul aircraft get an interiors makeover

BA has announced that 95 of its short-haul aircraft are set to get an interiors overhaul to give them an entirely new look and feel.

Work on revamping the aircraft is already underway and inspiration for the new designs has been taken from the latest newcomers to the BA fleet - the A380 and Boeing 787. The ergonomically designed charcoal grey leather have been made slimmer to allow for additional seats in the Euro Traveller (economy) cabin and boost then number of low fares.

The elegant and innovatively designed seating also maximises comfort for the air travellers, with an eye-level seatback tablet-holder and chair backs that allows for more knee space for the customer sitting behind. For additional comfort and support travellers can also take advantage of a four-way moveable headrest.

Other features that have been inspired by the airline’s newest long-haul cabins include contemporary LED lighting systems including a calming candlelit mood for dining and relaxing gentle white for cruising and landing. Commenting on the changes, Keith Williams, British Airways’ executive chairman, said: “The short-haul landscape has changed enormously in recent years. To stay competitive and keep offering customers choice, great fares and great service, we are giving our cabins a radical makeover. There will be a new look, but the traditional British Airways’ comfort, elegance and value will remain.”

Fitted across the next 12 months to the Airbus fleet the changes are bound to impress travellers heading off on their next short-haul holiday. And as well as looking good, the new look cabins will also help do good for the environment, saving an estimated 5% in CO2 per passenger/km.

Other changes that the airline has recently introduced for customer’s benefit include a range of new fare options including hand-baggage only, semi-flex and day returns. If you are heading off on holiday, it is important to ensure that you organise travel insurance in advance.
