Giving families extra: Ryanair launches new family-friendly service

Low-cost Irish airline Ryanair is continuing in its attempts to woo fliers with the launch of a new Ryanair Family Extra service. Offering families an improved service on Ryanair flights as well as a range of discounts, the service is sure to appeal to families who might otherwise find a journey with kids in tow a stressful experience.

The range of Ryanair’s Family Extra services designed to smooth the family travelling experience are as follows: 50% allocated seating discounts on children’s seats, 50% off checked-in bags for children, Discounted priority boarding, 50% off travel insurance for children, Reduced infant fees (now just €20/£20), A free 5kg infant bag allowance, Bottle warming and baby changing facilities on board, Two free pieces of infant equipment (buggy, booster seat, car seat or travel cot, carried in the hold), Bringing an approved car seat on board when a seat is booked, A Fly & Save bonus – get 20% off your third family flight when your family fly twice. (when booked by an adult)

In London, Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Jacobs, explained that the move is part of the Always Getting Better programme. He said: “As part of our Always Getting Better programme and our commitment to the continued improvement of our customer experience, Ryanair is delighted to launch Ryanair Family Extra, offering families a great range of discounts and an improved service for those travelling with children.

“This is the latest in a long line of Ryanair customer improvements, following allocated seating, a free second carry-on bag, reduced fees and a new website and we will next unveil our brand new app and mobile boarding passes in July, followed by a tailored business product, as we continue to offer so much more than just the lowest fares.”

Launched in March by the airline’s Chief Executive Michael O’Leary, Jacobs argued at the time that the aim of the Always Getting Better programme was for the airline to “become as liked as we are useful.”

If you are heading abroad with your family, it is important to organise family travel insurance in advance.
