Brits mistake stunning UK vistas for locations abroad

Stunning vistas, windswept beaches and more – surely these are the kind of holiday treasures you only find on a break abroad? If you agree with this idea, then you may have joined scores of other Brits who have mistakenly attributed breathtaking landscapes located on our very own shores for those in destinations abroad.

Using their Britain or Abroad quiz Sykes Cottages put the nation to the test, asking whether they thought a selection of photos represented locations in Great Britain or overseas. The results showed that many UK travellers have yet to appreciate the beauty and wonder that a staycation can offer.

More than third of those completing the quiz thought Gwynedd in Snowdonia National Park (39%), Cairngorms in the Scottish Highlands (34%) and Durdle Door on Dorset's Jurassic Coast (34%) were overseas. Further quiz results also revealed that the reverse was true when it came to destinations abroad, with many Brits incorrectly identifying them as being located in the UK.

66% thought the view of Hundested Harbour in Denmark could be found on our own fair isle, while the same assumption was made about Lake Solitude in Wyoming (59%) and the impressive Kasteel Waardenburg, Netherlands (43%). Commenting on the quiz findings, Tom Lowes of Sykes Cottages said: “We wanted our Britain or Abroad quiz to show people that you don't have to travel overseas to see some truly breathtaking scenery; it can be found right on your doorstep.

“Great Britain is home to some of the most picturesque countryside and coastlines in the world, from Snowdonia National Park, to the Highlands of Scotland and the Jurassic Coast of Dorset. “With 24 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 15 National Parks and 1,000 smallerislands to its name, Great Britain has so much to be discovered and enjoyed.”

If you are keen to test your knowledge you can still take the Britain or Abroad quiz on the Sykes Cottages websitehttp://www.sykescottages.co.uk/britain-or-abroad/ Wherever you are heading off on holiday this year, it’s important to organise travel insurance in advance.
