NYC, London and Tokyo named best destinations for nightlife

If you’re the kind of traveller who makes a beeline for the hottest bar and club districts the moment you step off the plane, then New York is the destination for you according to the latest Tripadvisor ranking.

The review site’s second annual Cities Survey placed New York City (NYC), London and Tokyo in the top three spots when it comes to nightlife, with NYC (1st) and Tokyo (3rd) also placing in the top three for having some of the best restaurants across the globe. Commenting on the survey findings James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson, said:

“London has always had a lot to offer tourists, so it is no surprise to see the capital ranking high for nightlife, shopping and attractions. But it seems we Londoners can still learn a lot from the friendly residents of Tokyo when it comes to making visitors to the city feel at ease.” Culture vultures will fare best if they head to Rome, Vienna and Paris (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively) named as the best destinations for culture.

Those who are keen to see all four corners of the globe as a solo traveller are set to feel most comfortable in Singapore, Tokyo and Vienna. Holidaymakers heading abroad with the kids in tow will find a family-friendly reception in Stockholm, Singapore and Copenhagen. They can also ensure that the kids are kept entertained around the clock by heading to the best cities for attractions, named as Rome, NYC and Paris.

Other insights revealed by the survey of more than 54,000 travellers include the top three cities offering best value for money - named as Budapest, Lisbon and Hanoi – and the best cities for helpful locals – named as Tokyo, Cape Town and Lisbon.

Do you agree with the survey findings? Are Tokyo, NYC and Barcelona really the best cities for overall experience? If you are heading off on an overseas holiday in the coming months, it is important to organise single trip travel insurance in advance.
