What are parents most looking forward to on their next holiday?

With the hectic pace of modern life it can be difficult for families to carve out some quality time together. Work, school and other commitments need to be carefully juggled so that whole weeks don’t pass by without families sitting down to a meal or heading on a family day out.

Now research conducted by Housetrip has revealed that getting away from it all really can do wonders for family life. It found that 60% of parents questioned cited spending quality time with their children as the thing they are most looking forward to on their next holiday.

Further figures show that while many travellers love the idea of a holiday with the kids in tow, organising this trip is easier said than done. 65% of parents said they would love to go on an overseas holiday with the family, but this can prove too difficult if there are young kids in the mix.

On average parents wait until their children are at least 18 months old before heading off on a holiday abroad, with 31% waiting even longer. 69% of parents also admitted that they sometimes "miss the freedom they had on holiday before they had their little ones."

Commenting on the research findings, Psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos, who partnered with HouseTrip on the research, said: "That so many families are spending less than three hours together in the week is a reflection on how busy modern life has become. The summer months have traditionally been the time when families reconnect and focus on proper 'us time'. But many mums and dads – especially the 'Globetrotter Generation' born in the 70s and 80s onwards, who were the first to see global travel adventures as the norm and who have put off starting a family until their mid-thirties – are now concerned about the implications of taking their little ones on holiday and what that will mean for their relationship.”

If you are planning a family holiday, it is important to organise family travel insurance in advance.
