Who wins out in the holiday booking battle of the sexes?

So when it comes to who wears the trousers in the holiday booking stakes, do men or women win out? Well according to a recent survey by Travelzoo, the results are far from conclusive. While a quarter of men felt that they held the purse strings when it came to a holiday booking only 6% of women shared this view.

And unsurprisingly, men and women failed to see eye to eye when the question was posed to women. While 37% of women felt that they had a firm grip on the holiday budget, just 9% of men agreed with this idea. The survey of 2,000 men and women also revealed a gulf in perceptions about who was in the driving seat when it came to choosing their ideal holiday destination.

24% of men felt the decision lay in their hands, while 45% of women felt that they had the final word on holiday destinations. Further figures show that 15% of men felt their partner took control of choosing their holiday destination, while just 6% of women felt that their partners took charge of their holiday destination.

Commenting on the research findings, Travelzoo's UK managing director, Joel Brandon-Bravo, said: "Our recent survey findings show a mismatch between the sexes in terms of who actually books and who decides on where to go. The data shows that women have a greater influence on the whole holiday process, with larger percentages of men agreeing that their partners decide where to go and how much to spend.”

One element of holiday booking where women emerged as clear winners was finding a bargain holiday. 27% of male survey respondents thought that women would be able to bag them a value holiday, compared to just 9% of women who thought this about their partners. Wherever you are heading to on holiday in 2014, it is important organise appropriate travel insurance cover in advance.
