Forget new-fangled holiday activities – building sandcastles still has pride of place in kids’ hearts

While many adults struggle to switch off on holiday, with successive surveys revealing that they remain glued to gadgets ranging from tablets to smartphones, holidaying kids need nothing more than a bucket a spade to keep a smile on their faces. The findings come as part of Eurocamp top ten Bucket (& Spade) List of the nation's kids' must-do holiday activities, with building sandcastles proving to be the most popular thing to do on holiday for more than half (56%) of under 11s surveyed.

This was followed by trips to the zoo/aquarium (51%), playing hide and seek/climbing trees (46%) and adventuring to castles and ruins (27%). The survey reveals that the nation’s kids have a keen spirit of adventure, and need nothing more than their imaginations to make the most of their beachside breaks.

The poll of more than 1,500 families, made up of both parents, and children before they turned 11, also revealed that the holiday activities today’s kids enjoy mirror those activities enjoyed by their parents when they were the same age. Just over three-quarters (76%) of parents also felt that enjoying holiday activities as a family helped family bonds grow stronger.

Commenting on the research findings, Chris Hilton, Head of Brand at Eurocamp, said: “I'm not all that surprised by these findings. The families we see staying with Eurocamp on a day-to-day basis are in their element splashing about in the pool or enjoying a family BBQ. It's important for families to share precious quality time together when on holiday and this research hears kids loud and clear. They want to kick back, relax and create fun memories, just like their parents, whether at the pool, beach or out and about sightseeing.”

Wherever you are heading to for your beach break, it is important organise appropriate travel insurance cover in advance.
