Good news for families: Easter holiday prices have fallen by as much as 25%

Families planning an Easter getaway in locations ranging from the French capital to the UAE, will have a reason to smile even before they set off on their break, with the news that plummeting prices will help their travel budget stretch that bit further.

According to Expedia.co.uk holidaying families will be able to enjoy more bang for their buck this Easter, with the cost of an Easter escape dropping by as much as 25% in a year-on-year comparison. Those planning to give their kids the treat of the lifetime with a visit to Disneyland Paris will also enjoy savings of 15% compared to 2013. And the good news doesn’t end there with falling holiday prices also enabling holidaymakers to enjoy lower cost holidays to destinations beyond the continent. This includes Dubai and Marrakech in Morocco.

Expedia.co.uk managing director Andy Washington said: “Some of the best deals are to be found further afield, although Disneyland Paris in particular is more than 15 per cent cheaper this year than last.” With recent months seeing the value of the South African rand plummet against the pound, the travel booking website also highlighted Cape Town as a good value destination for an Easter break. A stay in a four-star hotel in Cape Town averages at £640 per person during Easter week (April 17-24).

Recent figures released by M&S Bank also show that the continuing strength of the pound has seen UK travellers benefitting from below inflation holidays increases over the last year.

On average holiday costs at selected destinations have climbed by just 0.1%, while in other places holiday costs have dropped considerably. Over the last 12 months the cost of a holiday to Majorca has dropped to £253 per person, while the cost of a trip to Malta has also fallen by 0.4% to reach £303 per person.

Wherever you are heading to take advantage of lower holiday prices, it is important to get all your travel essentials, particularly travel insurance, organised beforehand.
