Will Christmas TV schedule help you make a holiday choice?

ABTA have suggested that films and television shows which are available across the Christmas and New Year period could have a major impact on where people choose to book their holidays this coming year. The Christmas period comes just ahead of the peak booking season and it is the perfect opportunity for friends and family to meet up and discuss any specific holiday ideas they might have.

Therefore, major TV productions could have a huge impact on the final choice which people make on their latest holiday adventure. For example, period dramas such as ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Death to Pemberley’ were among the biggest Christmas TV highlights on flagship channels such as ITV and BBC. Shows such as these always portray the English countryside in the most favourable light possible, as lavish events take place against the backdrop of aesthetically pleasing fields and meadows across various locations.

Considering this, it is felt that many people will retain this view of the area when they decide to book their holidays for 2014.

BBC Scandinavian crime dramas such as ‘1864’ and ‘Crimes of Passion’ are also set to delight viewers of the genre during this period. If you have been contemplating the idea of a break in this most spectacular of regions then the sight of spectacular Swedish backdrops might just tip you over the edge.

Victoria Bacon, ABTA’S Head of Communications, explained why there is such a strong link between the Christmas TV and schedule and final holiday choices.

“Any TV programme or film that showcases a destination strongly can be incredibly influential,” she stated. “Christmas represents a time when friends and family come together to share ideas and inspiration, often ahead of booking their holiday in January, so that makes television and film particularly influential during this time,” added Bacon.

However much time you take to make a final decision on your choice of holiday, it is also important to spend time choosing your travel insurance option before departing.
