Brits poised to take advantage of growing power of the pound

The ever-increasing value of the British pound could be poised to make overseas holidays more affordable than ever this year.

Travel agents are predicting that venues such as Cape Town and various US destinations will reach new heights of popularity due to the fact that sterling is set to go further than ever before. Mexico, Dubai, Bali, Jamaica and Orlando were also named among the most popular resorts where Brits could enjoy the popularity of the pound.

Paul Havenhead, Post Office head of travel, pointed to where he felt the biggest benefits could be found. “Sterling currently buys more holiday cash in all 10 of our January hotspots, with the biggest benefits to be found in Cape Town and Bali,” he explained.

Destinations in the United States are set to be of particular interest after recent trading updates. Last Friday saw the pound trade at the figure of $1.65, a figure which represented a three-year high.

Another also suggests that the average person is likely to spend more on their annual break than ever before in 2014, with £1,035 per person put forward as an average.

But why is the idea of booking a holiday in January becoming more popular than ever before? Rianne Ojeh offered one potential explanation when she looked at the trend. Package prices in early January are significantly more competitive than over the festive period, so now is the time to beat the post-Christmas blues and snap up a last-minute break.”

If you are thinking of taking advantage of the great offers which are around at the moment, it is important to consider the extra features which you might need when travelling abroad. Alongside the sun cream and travellers’ cheques, travel insurance can be a vital feature of any 2014 holiday as it offers peace of mind while abroad for numerous different reasons.
