Strong Pounds means Brits are quids in

Those looking for a cheap half-term getaway this year might just be in luck. Thanks to a strong pound at the moment, your money is set to go further than it did in the Easter holidays earlier in the year. In fact, according to some research carried out by the Sunday Mirror, it could be worth as much as 16.5% more in some destinations.

The best value destinations at the moment are Thailand, Turkey and the Caribbean, according to further research into the cost of living and exchange rates by the Post Office.

The Turkish Lira has slipped to a five year low against the pound, with Brits getting 14% more than a few months back. In Thailand and Australia, you should be able to get 16.5% more than in April of this year.

The pound is even up against the dollar, with rates up 5.5% from March. The Eurozone will also be around 1% cheaper for Brits, as currencies around the world fall against the pound.

The Post Office carried out some research into the average spend on holiday and found that Jamaica was around a third less expensive now than it had been some months back, making it great value for anyone looking for a holiday.

Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money said: “Sterling has been strengthening steadily against currencies for many popular holiday spots in recent weeks. With half term coming up, families will be spoilt for choice."

With this good news, the availability of cheap flights and great value travel insurance online, it might be possible to have a real budget holiday in the coming months. Great news for anyone looking to get away from the nights closing in and the winter weather that’s coming our way. With a little bit of research and a watchful eye on the strength of the pound, there could be some really big holiday savings to be made.
