World’s first Twitter themed hotel

These days the world of social media is big business. Celebrities use it to connect with their fans, corporations use it to advertise, and now you can even use it to order room service.

That’s because the world’s first Twitter themed hotel has opened in Majorca, with staff and guests using Twitter to communicate with each other. The guests at the Sol Wave House can interact via social media with each other without ever having to leave their room.

Guests log into their personal Twitter account using the hotel’s wifi. They can share photos, chat and even do a little bit of flirting should the mood take them. The hotel joins in the fun too with its special Twitter concierges who answer to guests’ tweets about poorly stocked mini bars and other hotel duties.

The hotel is hoping that Twitter will enable guests to make friends and interact socially. One of the twitter concierges said: “Our main clients are young and social people, who are always looking for new experiences to share with a growing virtual community.” Adding: “With #SocialWave we wanted to meet this aspiration.”

However, those of you who don’t tweet and prefer some good old-fashioned face-to-face contact need not fear. There is still plenty to do that doesn’t involve being permanently logged into your laptop. With five golf courses and two ‘flowboarding’ machines, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy.

You might also enjoy sunbathing on the hotel’s 2,500 square meter terrace or having a dip in one of the outdoor swimming pools. Or, of course, you could just take a photo from your hotel window and tweet it online to make your friends jealous. With new ways of enjoying holidays to suit all needs emerging all the time, the choice is almost endless. However, some traditions are important too and wherever you go this summer, make sure you have the right travel insurance to cover yourself.
