Last years prices slashed on 4 out of 5 destinations

Holidays are a top priority for Brits, and despite the fact that money is tight; holidays are the one luxury we are stubbornly refusing to give up.

But there’s good news for those planning to go on an overseas break this year, with cheap deals to popular sunshine destinations abounding in the travel market. Online travel agent On The Beach has revealed that a whopping 77% of holidays are cheaper this summer compared to the same time last year.

This is excellent news for cash-strapped Brits in desperate need of some fun in the sun to unwind and escape the stress of the daily grind. Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On The Beach, said: “When most day to day costs increase on a yearly basis, it’s no doubt a breath of fresh air for Brits when well-deserved holidays are actually more affordable than ever.”

A one-week three star holiday in Madeira on a bed and breakfast basis for two cost £799 last year, but this year the same holiday will set travellers back £599, saving them a substantial £200.

A seven-night holiday for two adults in June to popular sun-drenched destinations such as Greece and Turkey could also be as much as 25% cheaper compared to summer 2012. Holidaymakers have the opportunity to save up to 20% on Cyprus getaways, and holidays to Bulgaria have dropped 15% in price since last summer.

“Holidays to Cyprus and Bulgaria are already outselling last year and with so many holidays cheaper, we expect a bumper year for travel this year,” Mr Daly continued. Prices for holidays in the ever-popular Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh are down 13% on last year, as are all-inclusive hotels in Tenerife. If the cheaper prices have encouraged you to book a summer holiday, remember to ensure you have a suitable travel insurance policy in place.
