Ryanair opens two new bases in Morocco

Ryanair has announced that it is opening its 56th and 57th base in the Moroccan cities of Fez and Marrakech in spring.

The two new bases will operate a total of 36 routes: 15 from fez and 22 from Marrakesh. This will include four new routes between Fez and Lille, Nantes, Nimes and St Etienne and seven new routes between Marrakech Baden, Bergerac, Cuneo, Dole, Munich, Paris and Tours.

Two new Moroccan airports will also been added to Ryanair’s schedule. This will see two routes between Essaouira Brussels and Marseille, as well as three new routes between Rabat and Brussels, Paris and Marseille. Dr. Lahcen Haddad, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Morocco said: “The Moroccan tourism sector is very proud of the confidence Ryanair is showing in the capacity of the Moroccan destination to grow and develop to become a leading market in the Mediterranean region.

“This long-term commitment, as shown in the implementation of two bases in Fez and Marrakesh, and the opening of two new destinations (Essaouira and Rabat), is the first stage of a comprehensive strategy aiming, for Ryanair, to build a profitable business based on the huge growth potential of Moroccan tourism, as planned within the framework of Vision 2020.”

Seats on the Moroccan routes are already on sale, and the new schedule brings operations in Morocco to 60 routes and eight airports. The Moroccan tourism ministry recently announced that it invested €1.26 billion in the tourism sector in 2012, creating 4,400 jobs and increasing its bed capacity by 10,300.

Morocco’s capital, Rabat, was recently added to the UNESCO world heritage list, which praised the city’s “fertile exchange between the Arabo-Muslim past and Western modernism.” If you are going on holiday in the near future, to Morocco or anywhere else, remember to take out travel insurance before you leave.
