At least one trip for Brits in 2013

We’re all going on a summer holiday... well at least the majority of us are, as a new survey reveals that 92% of Brits are planning to take a break least once in 2013.

While staycations were thought to be falling out of favour with UK travellers, it appears they could have somewhat of a revival this year with 75% of holidaymakers taking their last holiday in the UK or Europe, according to the research released by Marco Polo Travel Publishing.

The study also revealed that beach holidays are an enduring favourite for more than third of Brits, while the opportunity to be a culture vulture and take in sights of interest also played a key role in the choice of holiday destination. Further trends identified by the research revealed that over 70% of survey participants deemed their annual getaway more important than purchasing a new TV, new gadgets or dining out.

While travel guides and the internet were the most popular 'go to' sources of information on a destinations, recommendations from family and friends as well as information on smartphone apps (8.3%) also proved vital. The survey also highlighted that the size of travellers’ holiday budget dictated the choice of destination for 40%.

“This survey is encouraging news for the travel industry this year and shows that the majority of people still consider an annual holiday to be a priority,” said Ian MacDonald, Managing Director of Marco Polo. “However, value for money is a key consideration. Consumers are becoming increasingly budget conscious and prepared to shop around. It’s also encouraging to see that consumers still value printed travel guides as a useful source of travel information – printed guides are here to stay for some time to come.”

If you are planning a break abroad this year, it is crucial to secure the right type of travel insurance policy for your needs.
