BA a supports Movember with facial fuzz aircraft

Prostate cancer charity ‘Movember’ has taken off in a big way over the last few years and thanks to British Airways (BA) a giant moustache-adorning Airbus A319 will now hit the skies.

Whilst the pencil, handlebar, horseshoe and the trucker moustache were all in the running to be on the aircraft, BA settled on the connoisseur to show its support to the charity. In addition to a branded aircraft, the airline is also encouraging staff to get involved in the charity campaign which aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer by growing their own facial hair.

BA cabin crew member, Kyle Patchett, who unveiled the aircraft’s new makeover, was himself sporting some impressive whiskers. BA said that it hopes to raise around £80,000 for the charity this month. The airline hopes to do this by hosting a number of road shows around the business to educate staff on health issues.

Liz Wilkinson, British Airways head of health services, said: “We’re always delighted to support Movember, it’s a charity that is very dear to our hearts here at British Airways, especially as our former CEO Lord Marshall suffered from the disease.

“As well as raising money, the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness on the importance of early detection and prevention of the illness.” The campaign was spearheaded by British Airways chairman, Sir Martin Broughton. The Movember campaign was born in Australia in 2006 and has since travelled across the world to become an internationally recognised fundraising activity.

During November each year thousands of men known as ‘Mo Bros’ will put down their razors to grow and groom a moustache for charity. Whilst you don’t need tidy facial hair to enjoy a flight on the newly fan-tash-tic BA aircraft, you should remember to take out travel insurance before you go abroad.
