Ryanair set to launch its own package holiday brand

Low-cost Irish airline Ryanair has revealed that it is set to launch its own package holiday brand, which could make its debut in as little as five years time.

PlaneThe announcement was made by Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair's chief marketing officer and comes as the airline makes a number of improvements to its offering. Speaking in trade paper Travel Trade Gazette he said:

"'If it becomes Ryanair Holidays at a point in time, it is a logical way for the brand to go.

'We do a version of it already. We can certainly do it better than we do. The way customers are responding to the new improved Ryanair, I think it will go forward."

Budget airline easyjet already has an established holidays brand offering ski breaks and more.

Ryanair has also recently announced a 32% increase in net profits to reach €795m as well as a 4% increase in passenger traffic numbers to 51.3m in the first half of the year.

On the figures, Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, said:

“We are pleased to report this significant increase in H1 profits. While partially due to the presence of Easter in Q1 and a weak prior year comparable, we have also enjoyed a strong summer thanks to our strategy (announced Sept. 2013), of raising forward bookings and improving our customer experience which has delivered higher load factors and yields. We achieved a number of milestones during the half year including."

Earlier this year, the airline was also placed in first position in the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Top 100 Airlines: Ranked by Traffic (Passengers).

With 81.3m international passengers carried last year, Ryanair was positioned ahead of 2nd place ranker easyjet (52.7m passengers), Lufthansa in third place with 50.7m passengers and Emirates in 4th place with 43.3m passengers.

Commenting on the figures at the time, Ryanair’s Robin Kiely said:

“IATA has once again confirmed that Ryanair is the world’s favourite airline, carrying more international scheduled passengers than any other carrier. Even the combined traffic of EasyJet, Iberia and SAS is still less than Ryanair’s total traffic."

If you are heading abroad on holiday, it is important to organise travel insurance in advance.
