Where’s the best country for an unbeatable quality of life? Australia, according the OECD

EurosThe land Down Under has long been known as a haven for expats the world over, with its pristine beaches, laid back lifestyle and attractive relocation packages inspiring many to ship out to its welcoming shores.

Now the latest ranking has put Australia in the top spot again when it comes to quality of life, proving that Australia offers something for everyone.

Ranking 362 regions of its 34 member nations using wellbeing measures such as education, jobs, safety and more Australia took the number one spot, beating countries such as Norway, Canada, Sweden and the US to emerge as the clear winner.

And for those wondering where they should head to in the country to be treated to a bonza lifestyle, then the OECD also offers up a convenient mini ranking to get your relocation on the right path.

Australia’s capital Canberra took the top spot in regional rankings, achieving top ten scores for safety, income and civic engagement – the highest amount of top 10s earned in the regional rankings.

Other key Australian cities that made it to the top 10 were Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Describing why its ranking focuses on quality of life, the OECD says the following on its website: ‘Recent years have seen an increasing awareness that macro economic statistics, such as GDP do not provide policy-makers with a sufficiently detailed picture of the living conditions that ordinary people experience.’

Melbourne makes it mark earlier in the year

Earlier this year all eyes were on the Australian city of Melbourne, after it took the top spot for the fourth consecutive year in the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index.

Describing what makes Victoria’s capital so special in the Herald Sun, Melbourne's Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle, said:

"To be named the world's most liveable city for four consecutive years is a great honour and a testament to the enviable lifestyle that Melbourne's offers."

"Safety, sustainability and smart growth have been the keys to Melbourne's liveability and prosperity," he said.

"It's terrific to know that we scored perfect scores in healthcare, education, infrastructure and sport," added Victorian Premier Denis Napthine said.

If you are planning to backpack your way around Australia, it is important to organise backpackers travel insurance in advance.
