Some may say that the airport and flying out of the country to your destination is one of the most exciting parts of your holiday. You pick your airport outfit and choose items for your hand luggage, keeping comfort, style, weather and boredom in mind. Once you’re about 2 hours into the flight the excitement dies down and your left feeling groggy, tired, and most likely hungry from the terrible plane food. A trip to the toilet to stretch your legs seems like a good idea until you look in the mirror frightened of the homeless reflection staring back at you. Here’s how to avoid
Don’t go overboard… on the makeup. Keep it minimal, the recirculated air in the cabin will suck all the moisture out of your skin creating a dull, flaky face when wearing a lot of makeup. Instead use a hydrating moisturiser or bb cream, with a touch of mascara and lip balm to keep your lips from chapping. This way you can keep moisturizing throughout the flight whenever you need a freshen up, whilst you won’t smear or transfer your makeup when your rubbing your tired eyes.
Comfy clothing is key to a good flight. A tight pair of jeans or jewellery will get you frustrated and regretful, most likely before you have even boarded the flight. Not only is it cold on the plane but if you’re tall (no leg room) or fidgety a good pair of tracksuit bottoms and a hoody or loose top will do you the world of good. Looking for something more stylish? Why not try a summer dress with a pair of tights which you can take off once you have reached your destination (if it’s hot of course) and don’t forget your comfy flight socks!
Awful taste in your mouth? Most likely the plane food, gross. Pack a travel size toothpaste and a spare toothbrush for the flight. There is absolutely nothing worse than fearing of bad breath and having a terrible taste in your mouth for a good 10 hours or so. Plus it gives you a chance to stretch your legs and wake yourself up.
Stay hydrated. Don’t feel rude asking for another cup of water if you’ve ran out of your own, because let’s face it the cups are so small you get a sip and it’s gone. A regular intake of water will not only keep your skin hydrated but it will assist with the effects of jet lag, and keep up your energy so you’re not yawning every 5 seconds. Best to get an aisle seat or you’ll have the huffy seatmate thinking his unspoken complaints.
Don’t underestimate a flight pillow. Your body will thank you for every minute of comfort you can provide. Many travellers swear by their supportive neck pillows; a microbead pillow is a good choice as it will conform to your neck and will relieve pressure on your joints. Ready to jump off the plane to enjoy your holiday.
If all else fails, put on your sunglasses as you escape the plane, nobody will know you’ve just endured a long haul flight….
