Interrailing

So it’s that time of year again where all the students are finishing their A-Levels and Degrees, but what can they, or even you do during the summer? Why not take a six week break or even take a trip Interrailing? Over the past few years Interrailing has become very popular, so below is some great information about the scheme.

Interrailing, Europe

For just a few hundred pounds a InterRail pass will grant you weeks of travel accross thousands of miles of train lines, from Paris to Athens and everywhere in between. There are two types of passes to choose from, you can select the ‘InterRail One Country Pass’ or ‘InterRail Global Pass’, the best pass to choose is the ‘InterRail One Country Pass’ as it will give you the option to discover 30 countries in Europe. This flexible multi country train pass lets you create your own trip and gives you the control to go where you want when you want. Both passes are aimed to make your venture smooth and hassle free, you can even upgrade to a Premium Pass, which will allow you to reserve seating in advance for free.

The pass will even give you opportunities to gain access to extra discounts during your travels, this means your holiday budget will stretch even further as you venture from country to country. Another great thing about Interrailing is that with every Adult Pass that is purchased you can now get up to 2 Free Child Passes.

Before you go on an Interrailing trip, you should make sure you read up on the places that you are going to be visiting. There is a high change that your trip will take you through many different language sectors, which can be a little overwhelming. It could be a good idea to learn a few basic words in the language of each country you'll be visiting. Below is a list of a three common languages to know when travelling:

French:

Hello: bonjour  (bohn-zhoor)

Goodbye: au revoir  (oh reh-vwar)

Please:  S'il vous plaît   (see voo play)

Thank you: merci  (mehr-see)

Do you have a menu in English? avez –vous un menu en anglais? (ah-vay vooz uhn men-u ahn ahn-glay)

How much is it? combien est-il (kohn-bee-an es-eel)

Spanish:

Hello: Hola  (oh-lah)

Goodbye: adios  (ah-dee-ohs)

Please:  por favor (por-fa-bor)

Thank you: Gracias (grah-thee-ahs)

I would like a menu in English? ¿Me gustaría la carta en inglés? (meh goo-stah-ree-ah lah kar-tah ayn een-glays)

How much is it? ¿cuánto cuesta? (kwahn-toh kway-stah)

German:

Hello: Hallo  (a-low)

Goodbye: Auf Wiedersehen (all-veet-a-zen)

Thank you: Danke  (dong-ka)

Do you have a menu in English? Haben Sie ein Menü auf englisch? (Have-n- see- ine- menuu-ov-eng-glish)

How much is it? wieviel kostet dies? (Vay-vel cos-tet dies)

So what will you need to take? In most cases what you need to take is very basic, you need to make sure that you can fit everything in to a nice comfy and light backpack. The four key things you must remember are your passport, travel money, a map and any medication you may require. A general rule in Europe is that the east and south is cheaper than west and north. If you are going to be camping and making your own food, then you may be able to get by on less than a £15 a day, this is likely to rise to £30 a day when you’re staying in hostels and eating out.
